A military historian stole a logbook belonging to the widow of one of the heroes killed in the 1943 Dambusters mission, a court heard.<br />

Alex Bateman, 48, persuaded Doris Fraser to hand over the £20,000 piece of memorabilia, which had belonged to her late husband Flight Sergeant John Fraser, for his research.<br />

Sergeant Fraser of 617 Squadron never returned from the mission of 16 and 17 May 1943 after his plane was shot down over the Ruhr Valley in Germany.<br />
